Examining the resettlement experiences of Muslim women

In recent years there has been increased attention to the impact of migration on mental health. However, existing research uses an intra-individual lens, focuses poor health refugees and asylum seekers, fails address limits traditional therapy. The aim present study was a gap in literature by focusing following question: how might human rights approach help us identify policies, practices, structural forces that after migration? Muslim women who migrated U.S. as and/or seeking were asked about their experiences well-being. Qualitative data from 10 semi-structured interviews analyzed thematic methods used generate themes. Four main themes identified: 1) critical definition meaningful life having access which entitled; 2) pervasive legal financial issues, family separation, citizenship-related challenges causes distress; 3) connection serves enhance well-being; 4) clinicians can mitigate emotional distress incurred identifying responding harming needs clients. This highlights importance incorporating competency framework when working with refugee asylum-seeking order challenge health-harming systems restrict rights.
